Club History

Founded in 1979, Classics Netball Club emerged from the vision of a group of friends united by their passion for netball and their desire to offer their daughters greater opportunities in the sport. The founding members, including notable netballers such as Dot Lavater, Elaine Manning, and Yvette Auckett, had extensive experience, with many having played at state and national levels for Western Australia and Australia.

The club’s inaugural team, composed of players aged 14-16, entered the Senior A3 competition (now akin to Open Division 3) in its first year. Despite being a newly formed club, the team’s success set a high standard and paved the way for future achievements. A number of these pioneering players progressed to represent Western Australia in state netball.

In 1980, Classics expanded by entering a junior team that swiftly made its mark, winning the Junior A1 grade (similar to 9-12 Division 1). This team was a product of the founders’ keen eye for talent, with players recruited primarily from Embleton Primary School and Deanmore Primary School by Dot Lavater and Elaine Manning.

Over the years, Classics Netball Club has continued to grow and evolve while maintaining its core values of excellence and opportunity. The club has consistently been strongly represented at both state and national levels. Many of our former players, who have achieved significant netball success, have returned to the club in coaching roles, further enriching our program. Additionally, their children now play for Classics, continuing the legacy of talent and dedication.

Classics Netball Club’s rich history reflects its enduring commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a strong, supportive community, making it a respected and integral part of the Perth Netball Association.

At Classics, we are proud to stand united in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Each year, we dedicate a special round to raise awareness and show our support for the Fight MND cause—a mission close to our hearts and one that continues to inspire our community.

During this round, our players proudly wear the iconic blue Fight MND socks, a small but powerful symbol of solidarity with those affected by this devastating disease.

Thank you to our members, supporters, and partners for standing with us each year. Let’s keep fighting, together.
